CHRS Student Research Fellows are select students in the MHRM program who spend a year working on current issues with an executive or an HR team from a CHRS member company.
Although no HR experience is necessary, students must be enrolled in at least 6 credits in the Rutgers MHRM program before they can apply to become CHRS Student Research Fellows. Candidates must have outstanding written and oral communication skills.
The general application process is outlined below:
Once CHRS Student Research Fellows are assigned to an executive or HR team of a CHRS member company, they conduct action-oriented research (which may include literature searches, written summaries of best practices, surveys, interviews and the like).
Yes. MHRM Students will receive between 1 and 3 elective course credits for their involvement in the program depending on the scale of the project.
The participating CHRS member companies have always been very flexible with school breaks and exam schedules. They realize that CHRS Student Research Fellows are students first — with student schedules and obligations (such as other coursework, jobs, and exams). You are advised to work with your company advisor to discuss a mutually acceptable timeline to complete your project work comfortably while juggling your MHRM coursework and your personal life.
It depends on the project and the company. If you do not want to travel, you can simply not apply for a given opportunity which requires travel.
CHRS Student Research Fellows will be expected to meet to discuss the progress of their projects and work on skill-building, project management, etc. with the CHRS Director, Professor Paula Caligiuri.
There will be no exams. Your grade will be co-determined by the CHRS Director and the company advisor with whom you have worked for your project.
